France: Gameplay Information
France is the ideal example of the feudal system, providing a military force for the king. The greatest problem with the French kingdom is the complete lack of unity within it. The Normans have taken England and aren't looking back while various other provinces are rebelling against French rule, subduing these is the first step to generating a decent powerbase in Europe to counter the threat of the Holy Roman Empire to the east. England, Spain, Portugal and Milan are also potential threats, so France must be able to fight on multiple fronts. France's strangths are their heavy cavalry and good infantry in the late period, but in the early period, they have particularly poor infantry.

France begin with a Large Town at Paris, a Castle at Toulouse, a Wooden Castle at Angers and Towns at Marseille and Rheims. Their initial position is one with a strong military, but surrounded by enemies. England have Scotland to their north, but will soon be turning their attention southwards. Spain and Portugal are likely to be moving northeast towards Toulouse and Bordeaux, while the Holy Roman Empire are tot he east, Milan are to the southeast and Denmark are off tot he northeast. All of these antions are a threat, so France must use its strong military early on to unite as much of France as possible into a single kingdom by tkaing rebel land. This will give the economy necessary to support the armies needed to defend the homeland. Enemies are all around, so the chance of having a relatively quiet game at home while you send off campaigning armies is very slim.

Recruitable Units
The following table contains all of the units that France can recruit in Multiplayer and Custom Battles. For the Grand Campaign, use the "All" period with the following corrections:
- Units in (Brackets) are mercenaries and therefore cannot be trained in campaign, although any general can recruit them in the field if he has space in his army and there are some available.
- Units in [Square Brackets] cannot be recruited in campaign, they are for Multiplayer and Custom Battles only.
- Units in Italics can only be recruited in certain regions (eg. The New World) or after a certain event (eg. The discovery of gunpowder).
